Women in Leadership - 2009 Dec

Dr. Sherry L. Dean is Executive Dean of the School of Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts at Richland College.  Prior to this work, Sherry was a professor of French and Speech communication in the Dallas County Community Colleges (DCCCD).

One of Sherry?s passions is global education. She secured and directed a prestigious Fulbright-Hays Program in Senegal, West Africa in 2006.  Sherry has also led numerous academic seminars and international Service Learning programs in West Africa, Mexico, and France. She is also an intercultural communications consultant and has presented workshops, sessions and papers at more than 70 academic and industry conferences.

Sherry has received numerous awards for teaching excellence. The Government of France awarded her a Knighthood in the Order of the Academic Palm (Chevalier, Ordre des Palmes académiques) in 2003. In 2000, the American Association of the Teachers of French awarded Sherry its prestigious Excellence in Teaching Award for Post-Secondary Level in Paris, France.  Sherry was most recently a nominee for Richland College?s Administrator of the Year.  She was also a member of  the Leadership Dallas 2009 class.  

Sherry holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from The University of Texas at Austin and two Master?s degrees from the University of Texas system.
