Description
Join us every Wednesday at the IQ HQ for the Richardson Business Network Breakfast, fostering connections among local professionals. Whether you're a seasoned entrepreneur or looking to expand your network, this weekly event provides a platform for sharing insights and exploring collaborations. Join us for this week's presentation from Cat Burdette and Amanda Gulley from RISD on how area businesses can partner with the RISD Professional Internship by sponsoring/hosting students.
The Professional Internship Program (PIP) places high-achieving senior students in local businesses for one-semester, unpaid internships, where they work 6 hours per week. The goal is to provide students with real-world experience in various industries and allow them to learn about different professions before investing in college or trade school tuition.
Amanda Gulley is an accomplished educator with a degree in Vocational Home Economics/Education from Tarleton State University and a Master’s degree, along with Principal certification, from Lamar University. She has been a professional educator for 26 years and has diverse professional experiences in student support, program development, and curriculum planning.
Currently, Amanda serves as the Coordinator of the Professional Internship Program, a role she finds incredibly fulfilling. She oversees the placement of over 150 students annually in non-paid internships while teaching employability skills in the classroom, allowing her to seamlessly blend my passions for education and career development.
Catherine Burdette is a Coordinator for the RISD Professional Internship Program. She joined RISD earlier this year, after spending 5 years in video and audio production at Infosys and 12 years as the Community Marketing Producer at WFAA.
She is currently serving on the Richardson Symphony Orchestra Executive Board of Directors and the RSO Beaujolais Bash Planning Committee, and the Boards of Directors for Methodist Richardson Medical Center Foundation and Repertory Theatre Company. She is a Richardson Adult Literacy Center Board Member and Producer of the RALC’s annual Murder Mystery.
Catherine holds a Master of Science degree in Radio, Television and Film from the University of North Texas, a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Education from the University of Northern Colorado, and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Colorado.
