"Optimize brain performance"
Featuring, Deirdre O'Neill-Warren, UT Dallas & Dianna Purvis-Jaffin, UT Dallas
Most people don’t consider their brain performance until they’re faced with injury, disease, or advancing age. In the workplace, failing to be a good steward of brain potential may produce decreased productivity, more sick days, stunted advances in innovation, and shortened career spans. The personal toll can lead to increased stress and anxiety. But just as science has shown that we can improve our physical performance with positive lifestyle choices, so too can we improve our brain performance.
During this 60-minute lecture, you and your team will:
- Better understand the basics of brain performance and how to improve it across the lifespan.
- Learn how lifestyle factors such as physical activity, stress and anxiety, nutrition, sleep, and social relationships affect brain performance.
- Take away actionable strategies to optimize physical activity, increase energy, reduce stress, sleep better, and build strong social bonds.
- Preview the science-based high performance brain training program known as Strategic Memory Advanced Reasoning Training (SMART) developed and available through the Center for BrainHealth.
About the speakers:
Dee O’Neill-Warren, M.S., LPC
Senior Clinician, Program Manager: Corporate and Executive Trainings
After more than 15 years working in both research and clinical Neuroscience roles, Dee joined the Brain Performance Institute in 2013. Dee facilitates the SMART program for Corporate and Executive audiences. She also co-developed and leads the speaker series “Optimize Your Brain Performance.”
Dee is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Texas, she graduated from Chaminade University of Honolulu with a Master of Science in counseling psychology, with a specialization in marriage and family therapy. Her undergraduate study was in human health and exercise science at the University of Hawaii. Dee is a board certified fellow in EEG Neurotechnology by the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance, beginning her work in the field in 2006.
Before moving to Texas, Dee worked in clinical settings such as PATH Medical, and Neurofeedback Consultants, as well as several years conducting Neuropsychological evaluations. Her research experience includes coordinating studies within the Neuroscience Research Center at National Rehabilitation Hospital, Sterling Medical, and the Office of Neurology and Aging Research within the Specialized Neuroscience Research Project in Honolulu Hawaii.
Dianna Purvis Jaffin, Ph.D.
Director of Strategy and Programs, Brain Performance Institute
Dr. Jaffin is passionate about how the basics - sleep, nutrition, and physical activity - influence brain health, cognitive function, and overall human performance. With a strong interdisciplinary science background that includes neuroscience, exercise physiology, and electrical engineering, Dr. Jaffin has melded evidence-based practices into wellness programs for corporations as well as human performance optimization initiatives for the Department of Defense.
Dr. Jaffin has a BS in Electrical Engineering from Florida Institute of Technology, an MS in Exercise Science and Health from George Mason University, and a PhD in Neuroscience from George Mason University. She is a certified Exercise Physiologist and Project Management Professional (PMP) and adjunct faculty at George Mason University and the Uniformed Services University.
Before her 2015 move to Texas, Dr. Jaffin was the Director of Innovations and Strategy for the Consortium for Health and Military Performance (CHAMP), a Defense Center of Excellence for the translation of HPO science located at the Uniformed Services University (USU) in Bethesda, MD.
