A 17-member delegation from the Tokyo Chamber of Commerce & Industry recently visited Richardson.

The group was invited during a visit to Tokyo by Chamber President Bill Sproull and Mike Skelton of the Mayor’s Office of International Business in July 2017.

The group met with Bill, Mike and Mayor Paul Voelker when they visited Feb. 26 to experience the dynamic economic growth of DFW. Mike hosted the 17 delegates and arranged visits to Fujitsu Network Communications in Richardson, University of Texas at Dallas Design Center and Toyota Motor North American’s new campus in Plano.

During a reception at the Texas Restaurant in Richardson, local dignitaries and DFW executives from several large Japanese companies welcomed them and shared their experiences here. During a luncheon on the second day, the group was given an overview of the North Texas economy before they departed for San Antonio and Houston.

Richardson has been named the International Business Capital of North Texas by the Texas Legislature, with 65 foreign-owned companies representing 19 countries operating in the city, according to a city newsletter. The city is home to 14 Japanese-owned companies.
