Former Chairman McVay dies at 91
Former Chamber Chair George R. McVay passed away April 18. He was 91.
Mr. McVay was chairman in 1991 and Citizen of the Year in 2000.
George was born in Evanston, Illinois on July 21, 1926. He graduated from the University of Tennessee, where he married Barbara Jeffreys in 1950. He served with the United States Army Corps of Engineers during World War II and the Korean conflict as a non-commissioned and commissioned officer.
After college, George started his career with the Memphis Chamber of Commerce and Union Planters Bank before moving to Texas in late 1961 to work for Hunt Oil Company. During his career, he served as vice president of real estate and area development of Hunt Oil. He served as president of Palette Investment Company, a Hunt Oil affiliate from 1981 until he retired. He was responsible for the planning, zoning, development and marketing of more than 6500 acres of land in Richardson, Plano, Lewisville and Mesquite.
He was chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission for the City of Richardson and served on that panel for nine years.
Our sympathies are with his family but we are thankful for his many contributions to Richardson.
