Mayor Paul Voelker, RISD Superintendent Dr. Jeannie Stone and Richardson Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Bill Sproull gathered at City Hall to officially kick off the new Richardson Mayor’s Summer Internship Program. The program, a collaboration between the City, RISD and the Chamber, will enable 50 incoming high school seniors to receive eight weeks of paid employment this summer at a local company or nonprofit. It is modeled after successful internship programs in several cities including Dallas and Plano.

The internship will involve an online application process, an all-day training class, a job fair and further training for those chosen for employment. Though not every student who participates will receive an internship, applicants will benefit from the training class and job fair, including instruction and practice in interviewing and resume writing, with each student leaving with a finished resume.

Internships will be available to students who live within RISD boundaries, with a limited number available to students who do not attend RISD schools.
