Chamber delegates visit Austin to learn and advocate
Forty Richardson business and community leaders went to Austin March 5 – 6 for Richardson and Tech Titans Legislative Days to visit our state elected officials. On Tuesday, meetings were held at the new Texas Association of Business (TAB) office. Speakers included Lisa Craven, deputy comptroller from the Texas Comptroller’s office; Dale Craymer, president of the Texas Taxpayers & Research Association; and Jessica Boston, manager governmental affairs, TAB.
Most of the elected officials attended a reception and dinner on Tuesday evening. Sen. Angela Paxton spoke to the delegation about her legislative priorities for this session, which include property tax reform and public education funding.
On Wednesday, the delegation heard from Rep. Ana-Maria Ramos, Rep. Angie Chen Button and Rep. Jeff Leach. Also, Christy Rome, from the Texas School Coalition, spoke about the public school funding bill filed by Dan Huberty, chair of the House Public Education Committee. The highlight of the morning was Speaker Dennis Bonnen enthusiastically speaking about the importance of passing the school finance bill and giving teachers a pay raise.
Texas Education Agency Commissioner Michael Morath spoke passionately to the group during lunch at the Austin Club about improving education in Texas.
