Ain’t no mountain high enough, literally, for Kory Aoyama, a member of the Chamber board.

Faced with any challenge, including Mount Everest, he’s going to do his best to succeed.

A current member of Leadership Richardson Class XXXIII, he traveled in 2017 to the base camp of Everest.

“Ever since I was a little kid I had a fascination with Mount Everest. I think that’s true for a lot of people that like the outdoors, like hiking,” he told a local newspaper last year.

Kory joined Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) in 1989 and is currently serving as the sales director – large and national accounts for the north Texas region.

In addition to serving on the Chamber’s board, Kory is a father of three, grandfather to three and a leader in at his church. He also volunteers with the Boy Scouts of America and has served as a mentor with the African Americans In Motion Mentoring Program.

His interest in volunteering at the chamber started when he was asked by his company to represent them with some of the chamber activities, which soon changed into serving on the advisory board. Before long he realized the impact the chamber had on the local economy and the value it provided to businesses in the Richardson area. His volunteering quickly became more of a passion to do more and he was elected to the board where he currently serves as first vice chairman with responsibility for the economic division.

When asked about the benefits of working with the chamber has had on his career, Aoyama said, “If I were to just consider the networking opportunities alone of attending the meetings and participating on the many different committees that the chamber has, I would say that I’ve benefited greatly, but my experiences have been much more than that. Because of my involvement in the chamber, I will soon be a graduate of the Leadership Richardson program that has taught me so much about servant leadership skills and allowed me to put those to use in our community.

“The City of Richardson is such a dynamic and diverse place to not just work but to live in. This community takes tremendous pride in taking care of its citizens, community partners and businesses. I am very proud to represent the chamber and all the good they do.”

As sales director for BCBSTX, Kory is responsible for directing new sales activities through his staff, consultants and brokers for the large and national account segment. Working closely with these producers, his team develops comprehensive and consultative strategies that focus on the core aspects of each client’s unique needs.

Prior to his current position, Kory was a senior sales executive for 15 years and worked to develop successful marketing and sales strategies for medical, dental and ancillary products. Prior to that position he was a regional account manager and was responsible for group account implementation, enrollment and on-site customer service visits. Kory gained invaluable management and customer service skills while working in BCBSTX’s customer service department.

Kory graduated with honors from Northwood University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in management. Additionally, he holds a managed healthcare professional (MHP) designation from the Health Insurance Association of America.
