SUMMARY:New Teachers Luncheon - August 17\, 2012
DESCRIPTION:Registration opens - 11:30 am\nLunch and program - 12 - 1:30 pm\n\nEach year this special event in August honors new teachers entering the Richardson Independent School District and demonstrates the business community's support of quality education.  The event is attended by approximately 500 people including more than 350 new teachers and features a motivational keynote speaker.\n\nThis years keynote speaker is: Mary Ann Rankin\, CEO of the National Math and Science Initiative\n\nPrior to joining NMSI\, Dr. Rankin served as Dean of the College of Natural Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin.  Dr. Rankin received her BS degree in Biology and Chemistry from Louisiana State University in New Orleans\, served as a National Science Foundation pre-doctoral fellow at the University of Iowa and Imperial College Field Station\, Ascot\, England\, and was awarded a Ph.D. in physiology and behavior from the University of Iowa in 1972. She then served as a National Institutes of Health postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University.  Dr. Rankin’s research focuses on studies of the physiological relationships governing the evolution of insect life history strategies.  As dean she oversaw the establishment of several successful programs for undergraduates including the UTeach program for math and science teacher preparation\, the UT Discovery Learning initiative\, the Texas Interdisciplinary Plan\, and the UT Austin Freshman Research Initiative. Under her leadership the College of Natural Sciences raised over half a billion dollars from private donors for these and related programs.\n\n\nRCC Registration/Cancellation Policy:\nReservations with payment are required. Because of facility requirements\, we must charge for reservations not cancelled three days prior to the event. Cancellations after that date can be substitued\, please provide name prior to event. On-site registration (walk-in's) will be charged an additional $10. Unclaimed reservations during the event will be relinquished at noon. On-site registrants (walk-in customers) will be seated based on space availability.\n\nMember - $40 | Non-Member - $50
